Uluwatu
$75 per person
Uluwatu is the southernmost part of Bali. It is located on the Bukit Peninsula, which has a completely different geological structure than the rest of the island. It has no volcanic origin and is built of limestone rocks that have risen from the bottom of the sea. A different substrate results in a different vegetation cover. It is less humid here, and the landscape is more Mediterranean than tropical and lush jungle, which we usually see in Bali.
Uluwatu is high cliffs. We will start our one-day trip with a descent from one of them to the pristine Nyng Nyang beach. Due to the difficult accessibility (a journey of several hundred meters on a steep path), the beach is practically uninhabited. It stretches for several kilometers. A monumental cliff towers over the white sand and crashing waves. You can feel like Robinson Crusoe for a moment here. We advise you to bring your swimsuit and change clothes, as the hike back up the mountain will make you sweat.
The beach is very close to the 11th century Pura Luhur Uluwatu temple. It is also located on a cliff whose height is 70 meters. There is a wonderful view of the ocean from here.
After visiting the temple, we will go to another beach, where we will stay until sunset. The popular spot Single Fin is a conglomerate of bars and restaurants clinging to the cliff like swallows’ nests. At the foot of the cliff is one of the best surf spots in Bali. Here, the descent to the beach is not so exhausting and takes place via stairs. When we return to the top, we will watch a spectacular sunset from there.
When we have enough strength, on the way back we can visit the famous fish market in Jimbaran. There, each of us will choose and buy fresh fish, which we will then take to one of the nearby restaurants, where the chef will prepare them for us on the grill.
