Gili Tepekong

Gili Tepekong is a huge volcanic rock located in the northern part of Candidasa Bay. To get to it, we first need to drive to Padangbai (about an hour’s journey from Sanur) from where we will take a jukung boat, which will take us about 25 minutes.

Due to the frequent strong currents and considerable depth of diving, we only take experienced people there. On Tepeknog, the attraction is the caves where young White Tip sharks swim. We often see adults there as well. We probably also meet sea turtles, and in the period from August to November we can come across Mola Mola fish. Maximum dive depth 30m+, average depth 18m.

On the way back we reach Padangbai Jetty. This is an unused huge pier previously used to service large cruise ships. We especially recommend this place to underwater photographers. Thousands of fish and corals have found refuge among the huge 20-meter columns supporting the pier. Swimming between them in the shadow of the jetty, we feel like on a gigantic wreck. We meet there whole shoals of puffer fish, bat fish and lionfish.
