Ijen Volcano
$280 per person
This is a two day trip. On the way to the Ijen volcano, we will visit the Jatiluwih rice fields and reach Nung Nung, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Bali.
We leave the hotel in the morning, after about two hours we will reach the rice fields. This is by far the most impressive and largest terraced rice fields in Bali. They have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. A place that you absolutely cannot miss when visiting the island. After a tour of the rice fields, we have lunch at a restaurant with a great view.
After the meal, we go to the Nung Nung Waterfall. One of the most spectacular in Bali, and still not very popular among tourists. Since the trip to the waterfall is quite a strenuous march deep into the jungle, we recommend taking a change of clothes with you. After returning from the waterfall, we head to the western end of Bali to take a ferry to Java in Gilimanuk, where we will spend the night near the Ijen volcano.
At dawn, or even before it (we will decide together about the time of departure) we set off to the volcano. If we do it before dawn, we’ll watch the sun rise against its crater, as well as the blue flames of sulfur gas that comes out of the cracks. Inside the crater there is an emerald-colored acid lake and a landscape like from another planet. It is here that workers extract sulfur with simple tools and transport it on their own backs to the top of the crater to earn $8 per 100 kilograms of cargo.
After descending the volcano, we return by car and ferry to Bali. We have a long journey ahead of us, and we will return to the hotel after dark.
